Kathy Shumate grew up in the auction business. Her Grandfather, Latham Shumate, was primary auctioneer in Fauquier County in the 1930's, 40's and 50's. Her father, Wilbur, joined the family business in the late 1940's and continued to provide quality and colorful auctions well into the early 1990's.
Starting out as the ticket runner for her father, she progressed into the cashier and clerk positions. Finally taking over as the bookkeeper for his business gives Kathy over 30 years in the auction business.

Now, a graduate of The Mendenhall School of Auctioneering, she steps up to continue the legacy by providing the highest standard of auction. She has completed the Certified Appraiser Guild of America certification program and offers professional personal property appraisals. Kathy is also a member of the National Auctioneer Association and the Virginia Auctioneer Association.

With over 40 years in the auction business, Kathy Shumate Auctions offers responsive courteous service for all types of auctions- estates, real estate, equipment and benefit/fundraisers. In the tradition of her Grandfather, Latham, and Father, Wilbur, her attention to detail and organized sale day ensures that when that auction gavel falls, the outcome is positive for both the buyer and seller
