FIRE - FIRE- FIRE

So, by now you probably know the wild night I had on Thursday, Feb 12 about 7pm.  The above picture was taken when I arrived on the scene.  The structure was fully engulfed and a huge fireball was in the far back corner where the power box was located.  That has been determined as the source of the fire.

The exceptional job by the Warrenton Vol. Fire Dept and other units held the fire to the storage end of the building.  The knowledge of fire fighting and the continuity of the group kept the fire from the auction space.  As a matter of fact,  I have minimal smoke smell in there.

Now I have no utilities and not sure when they will be come reconnected.  The owner's insurance and my insurance adjustors have been there and I await to hear from them.  I don't know when I will be up and running again, hopefully before the end of February.  I will keep you informed.

I am humbled by the out pouring of support through emails, texts, and phone calls.  I can not say Thank You enough.  Fortunately, I do not have any cleanup.  The damage to the storage end will be taken care of by the owner's insurance.

News at 5pm

Yesterday, I went to Charlottesville to conduct Storage Auctions.  Cold day and I was kinda dreading the trip.  But the first sight had 5 units and they sold well, so the $ was nice.
The second site also had 5 units and they sold really nice $$.  PLUS, there was a bonus!!!
Channel 29/NBC was there to film for 5pm News!
Here is the link if you always wondered if it was really like STORAGE WARS on A&E.

Happy New Year 2015 !!!

Here we are making resolutions..probably same ones as last year...they are still good, right, not fulfilled, so why not keep passing them along?

Well, I have never been one for resolutions.  I look at 2014 and think Shumate Auctions didn't do so bad in those 12 months--40 events :
20 Auctions
7 Estate Tag Sales
12 Fundraisers
1 Online auction

So why make drastic changes?
In business, you have to keep evolving and changing for alot of reasons.
  • Keep up with the competition
  • Keep the audience attendance up
  • Fix and tweek everyday behind the scene issues
  • Keep working smarter not harder
  • Keep improving efforts for a better auction
  • Keep a public visual and be approachable
  • Continue to give back to the Community
  • Remember take a breath and find downtime
  • Be Yourself, no one else can

The New Year's Eve auction was GREAT.  I love the crowd and bidding was also GREAT.  I hope everyone enjoyed the social event of the year!

That auction was not only #20 for the year, but #142 since I started in 2003.   That averages almost 13 a year, which isn't bad since I didn't start on my own until August of 2003.

Back in 2011, I offered a Newsletter call the Auction Ear.   Well, I have decided to start it up again.  For your amusement, I have emailed Vol 2, Issue 1 to my email auction contacts.  If you did not receive one, email me and I will send it.  Copies will also be available at the January 17, 10AM auction.

Fauquiernow.com posted a nice interview about my business.  Fauquiernow.com
